While I wait for the clock to move us all into the new year, I ponder the mysteries of stamping. Today I share with you some cool things I've discovered in the last few months.
Here is a .pdf document I found on
shimelle.com entitled
101 Things to Do With Your RibbonSome of my favorite tips on this list include:
14. Criss-cross two lengths of ribbon to create a pocket.
26. Make a flower with loops of ribbon plus a button in the middle.
33. Fray ribbon scraps, then overlap and sew to the page.
52. Use polka-dot ribbon with striped patterend papers.
55.Use your ribbons in vertical strips instead of horizontal.
88. Spice up a simple layout with just three knots of ribbon near the corner of the photo.
89. Create a pinwheel design by sticking down bright ribbons out with an angle at the end.
Not exactly a poor girl's Z Becky BrownA friend recently emailed me a link to a
purse offered at Wal-Mart. It is being marketed as a photo purse, but she thought I'd like to see it since stamped art could be placed inside the panels as well. My jaw dropped at the price, however. $32.76 - $39.64 !
That is more money than I spent on my Z Becky Brown! And my Z Becky Brown is very classy looking with brass on the handles. Is the Wal-Mart version leather, I wonder? It doesn't say on the website. Certainly the plastic photo areas can't be that expensive to manufacture.
The Z Becky Brown style isn't for everyone, however, and I'm sure there are women that prefer a leather-look purse with soft sides. I won't be buying this purse. And I try my hardest never to set foot in a Wal-Mart because I dislike the company. (Although I admit I was forced to go there to purchase Name Frame photo frames because it is the only store that had the correct size frames.)
Scrapbook Page MagnetsHere is a product I came across about 2 months ago.
Scrapbook Page MagnetsI haven't tried ordering some yet, but it looks easy. There is an order form and the customer is asked to provide a .jpg of the scrapbook page. They make a magnet out of it for your fridge.
Scrapbook Page FramesSome scrapbook pages turn out so beautifully that scrapbookers wish to frame them. I found a frameable solution to this problem
here Scrapbook SketchesHere is a blog full of scrapbooking sketches. The blogger is a digital scrapbooker, but any of these layouts can easily be used by paper scrapbookers as well.
Cute travel-themed projectAs I continue to clean out my browser bookmarks getting ready for the new year, I'd like to share something I bookmarked awhile back. I was looking for some ideas for the DD gallery and came across
this project. I never used this idea in the gallery, but I'll share it here. It's a suitcase-shaped scrapbook page. Originally I was going to make this using Stampin' Up! paper, Hodgepodge Hardware and twill tape for the December embellishment challenge. However, Michele Boyer created an awesome Sachel greeting card for that same gallery and I decided to put my ideas to use elsewhere. My thought was to use the Stampin' Up! safari background and the Direct to Paper technique to age the cardstock. Then I'd use a faux leather technique from the TJ newsletter to create the straps and use the buckles in the Stampin' Up! Hogdepodge Hardware. I may still create this project... maybe in a month or two!
and speaking of travel...
Emily le chat hired by Budget Travel magazine
In the ongoing saga of Emily le chat, it has been announced that Emily has been hired as a regular columnist for Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel Magazine.
Her qualifications include finding the best boatfare to France and best airfare from France recently as well as knowing the secret to finding the best French food and lodging at no cost.

Her experience impressed the editors at Budget Travel and they are giving her an office equipped with plush soft chair, dangly octopus toy and one-of-a-kind litter pan designed by world-renowned interior designer
Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.
Emily will begin her new position on Jan. 2 and she is hoping to make a big splash in the world of feline travel with her marvelous new ideas. "Meow, meow, meow meow, meow meow" said Emily about her new position.
For her next trip, she is considering Madagascar to have lunch with a
lemur, or perhaps New Zealand, to have brunch with a
bandicoot.
When an empty envelope in the mail one dost receiveHave you ever received an empty envelope in the mail? I suppose it isn't that unusual. There are a lot of busy forgetful people mailing things. I can easily see myself forgetting to place a payment in an envelope when doing bills. However, yesterday I received a USPS priority mail envelope with $3.85 in postage on it from someone on Splitcoaststampers. With great anticipation I opened the tab that says "Pull to Open" and much to my surprise, it was empty! I looked again, thinking that maybe whatever was in it was small and fell out when I opened it. Nope! There was nothing in the envelope. Nada, Zip, Zilch! What is even more perplexing is that I have no idea what this person had intended to send me. A beautiful stamped creation, perhaps? I'm not hosting any swaps right now, so that's not it. It's sad that she spent $3.85 to mail me um... nothing, but I think what is worse is not knowing what it was she intended to send!
Husband responsible for wife's creativity this morningThe wife in question is me, and the husband responsible is of course, Frank. The December DD gallery at Splitcoaststampers was supposed to be my last month of participation.
Due to unforseen circumstances, I am participating in the January gallery also. Since I hadn't planned on doing the January gallery, I didn't plan my projects ahead of time. I am now finding myself a bit at a loss as to what to create. For the last few days, I haven't been stamping much and I haven't had any great ideas for projects. Until this morning...
I was mentioning to my husband what the theme is for this month and that I was having trouble coming up with ideas. Well, if he didn't just give me a fantastic idea right then and there! "Why don't you do [this and this and this]...". I was amazed at his ideas! I jumped up and headed straight to the stamp studio and stamped up his idea! I also had to give him a piece of cardstock and told him to pick up a flower that matched it for the photo display!
Thanks dear, sweet husband!
