So... I'm planning for a workshop this weekend ... I'm demo'ing the "All Wrapped Up Caught A Bug" card and I had all the supplies in one spot. When I went back to pre-cut the paper and get ready, I couldn't find the red sticky tape... hmmmm ... I still can't find it. I have no idea where it went. The last time I saw it was when I made that first card. Then I set it aside and now when I'm preparing for the workshop, its not there! ... ok... so what do I do? I've looked and looked. I'm guessin' that one of the cats (probably Wooster) found it and either dragged it off somewhere or was playing with it and hid it. I haven't got a clue. I turned the place over lookin' and its nowhere to be found.

Well last night I went over to Mary's house to give her something and I was talking about my problem and she said "I've got some you can use!" Whew! ... ok, her's isn't SU sticky tape... but at this point I can't find my SU stuff and I'm desparate. I'll have to use her's and thankfully she let me borrow it! I'm going to make her an "All Wrapped Up Caught A Bug" card as a thank you for saving my project plans!

Thanks Mary P.! You're the Greatest!

I've got lots of time to stamp today! I'll post again this afternoon!

By the way, I have a new unopened "Furnished With Love" hostess set for trade. Not really my style... anybody want it? Make me an offer.

-----update - Trade has been made!

Well... I wasn't going to do this... but... Here's one of the projects I've been working on for fall. For more, stop back August 2!

Here's a card for a recent grad who is heading into the workforce this fall:

I was just about to get dinner at the the butcher shop here in town... but I was reading Deb's blog briefly... Deb has commented on the Ink Artist blog several times... anyways, she mentions something about becoming a "Fly Lady" and I've heard the term before but I never really thought to check and see what that is... so Deb made me curious. I clicked on the link... and OH MY! There is this scary lookin' lady with really big wings instructing her readers how to conquor clutter! That's enough to scare anyone into shapin' up!
I'm not a slob, I'm not a perfectionist... I'm somewhere in-between... but Hmmmm... I'll have to see if the Fly Lady has any useful "baby steps" for me to take! Gotta go get dinner now... DH will be expecting dinner since I'm home on vacation today... If I'm going to start being a Fly Lady, I better fly... later

P.S. Hey... maybe I should host a "Fly Swap" (ok... bad pun, forgive me) That would make me a "Fly Swapper"

Backorder Blues

FYI there are some retired stamp sets that were ordered before the deadline that still haven't been shipped. I'm still waiting to get my "Spirit of Love" set. Two customers are still awaiting a Hedgie set and a retired punch...

I guess some of the new stamp sets and the aquapainters are on backorder too... Everybody at SU must be putting in loads of overtime to handle the demand! Whooo Hooo! SU!!!

Lets Swap!

Michelle/Michele Swap

On Splitcoast last night somebody posted wondering how many "Michelles" are Splitcoast members ... so of course I had to reply... well I told my DH about it and he said... hey, you all should do a "Michelle Swap"! And I thought that was a great idea... so, here we are... doing a "Michelle Swap"! If you are reading this and your name is Michelle/Michele ... do you want to join the swap?!

Mocha Lisa and belated birthday card

Yesterday I had a stamp workshop at the Mocha Lisa. We meet every fourth Saturday of the month at 1:30. If you are a stamper and you live in Racine, email me if you want to attend!

The Mocha Lisa has REALLY GOOD brownies with vanilla frosting and Chai Tea, by the way...)

This is the project we made:

When I got home from the workshop, there was a pleasant surprise in my mailbox! A belated birthday card from Cheryl! Check it out!:

Cheryl did a really great job of inking up these "block-style" stamps really good to get a good solid color block. She must keep her ink pads nice and inked up juicy to get that great effect. I love the butterfly "cutouts"!

I'm in the process of making all new fall projects for my Stampin' Up! website... on one of the projects (that I plan on up-loading August 2nd) I followed Cheryl's example with the diagonal cutouts technique that she used on this card. Make sure to drop on by again on August 2... put it on your calendar of things to do... so that you can see my new fall 2004 creations! You are in for a treat!

Waiting for my new catty order

I needed to make a birthday card for a friend's grand-daughter today. She is 3 years old and loves pink and purple. While I am waiting for the new catty order, I thought this was a good opportunity to play with some retired Stampin' Up! sets. I went to the closet and got out Beautiful Ballerinas and Special Greetings to make her card. The tutu is net fabric and I put pink glitter on it. Here it is:

My first new catty order has shipped! Due to arrive the 26th. New "toys" on the way!

My New Catty Opinions

Ok... catching my breath...

I absolutely LOVE the selection of hostess sets this year. I think Stampin' Up! did a really great job providing hostess sets in various styles that will please the greatest number of people. Great that the hostess benefits are the same and didn't decrease (Of course, don't we all wish they would have increased?!)

Layout:

Great layout. I LOVE having the sections in colored "tabs" right under the page numbers on the right top corner. nice. I love the newly designed "Our stamps" and "About our products" pages. They spell out all the details, coordination, color families, etc. right up front in an easy to find place for those attending workshops and stamp camps. The only thing I miss is the page with all the wheels on it.

Catalog/Mini Catalog/Memories Catalog change:

Great idea to go back to one big catty and increase the size of the mini catty. I could never figure out what they were trying to accomplish with the Stampin' Memories catties... they didn't seem to make any sense to me and I rarely had anyone order from them.

Bravo on the "Getting Started" kits. Fabulous idea for the beginner!

Stamps:

Again, overall they did a good job with variety in their stamp sets. I'm VERY happy to see an increase of emphasis in shape sets. While some demostrators think that all the shape sets are "overkill", I'm interested in seeing how all these are used this year on Splitcoast galleries. Many people don't realize how shape sets can add incredible artistic possibilities in their versitility alone. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of new Christmas sets until I looked at the new mini-catty. Ouch goes the checkbook! It really makes sense for Stampin' Up! to carry the majority of their new seasonal sets in a seasonal catalog rather than use space in the big catalog in which the majority of sales for the items will occur seasonally. Of course they need a core stock of Christmas sets in the big catty for those who just need to purchase a bit of Christmas in July, for example, but I like that the new ones are in the mini... that makes the mini-catty a better resource.

My favorite stamp sets in the Holiday mini-catty:

On Angel Wings (Stunning!)

Time for trees wheel (How cute is that?!)

Yuletide Montage (Simply Gorgeous!)

Painted Poinsettias (Anything sketchy and watercolory like this set is automatically MINE!)

Holiday Happiness (So outrageously versatile!

Poinsettia, Woodcut Holly, and Swirling Stars Jumbo wheels (Whooo Hooo! more wheels to make giftwrap!)

ok... now that I've listed practically all of the stamp sets in the new mini-catty as my favorites, dare I go on to the big catty?.....

Big catty Darts & Laurels:

Laurel - Bravo for the Everyday flexible Phrases! Whooo Hooo!!! We needed that!

Dart - No anniversary stamp set! Next to birthdays, I send out alot of anniversary cards. Where are the words I need for anniversary cards? ... not in the SU catty... apparently...

Laurel - BEADS!!!!!!

Dart - You took away my colorful glitter #%%(*&&)(*^*&%#$%^*

Laurel - FINALLY... A lilac stamp! (I love Lilacs)

Dart - NO THEATER/DRAMA themed set... BOOOO WHOOOO

Laurel - BEADS BEADS!!!!!

Dart - I want my liquid applique back!

Laurel - New backgrounds... Paisley Print, Geometric, Bitty Blossoms (so cute)

Dart - Only 1 new Bible verse set

Laurel - Silver Bliss and Copper Kiss!!!!!!!!

Dart - I hate the Coluzzle ... can't you give us something better????!!!

Laurel - Aqua Painter (Awesome!)

Dart - Same watercolor pencils... I want watercolor pencils in the 48 glorious colors

Laurel - New paper cutter, the old one doesn't cut straight.

Dart - Still the same-ol' decorative edge scissors... Dear SU, can we please have new styles next year... pretty please with sugar on top?!

Laurel - Sticky Strip... better known to me as RED TAPE!!!!!! I've been using Red Tape for years illegally on projects... now its no longer contraband!!!! I can demonstrate it!!!! (Where else but in stamping society could you ever find anyone who could honestly say that they LOVE "Red Tape" LOL LOL !!!!!!)

Dart - I really loved the Hermafix Tabs and I will continue to use them. I wish they were still in the catty.

Laurel - BEADS BEADS BEADS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dart - I was hoping they would have a mini-sewing machine for sale... one that actually sews straight like in many of their samples

Laurel - Beautiful new Oriental set called "Oriental Brushstrokes"

Dart - Why can't we have SATIN ribbon in addition to Organdy and Grosgrain!???

Laurel - Newsprint and Simple Type Alphabets (Diggin' it!)

Dart - No more creative paperclay!

Laurel - Logo Stampin' Carry! (Most excellent)

Dart - Still the same ol' outrageously expensive light table

Laurel - New Whale punches!!!!!! (jumping up and down!)

Dart - I would like to see a better selection of embossing powder... anything that glitters kind of like the Hologram Highlights

Laurel - New font CD with 10 fabulous new fonts!!!

Dart - No cute new kitty stamp set

Laurel - BEADS BEADS BEADS BEADS!!!!!!!!!!

'nough said...

Stampin' Up! started taking orders out of the new catty today at 1 pm Central time and I logged in exactly at 1 pm and placed my first new catty order. I have 3 workshops in the next 3 weeks and I need some of the new stuff ASAP! I'll be tracking that UPS tracker everyday in anticipation!

OH MY GOSH!!!! Regionals... in MADISON WISCONSIN November 19 & 20th!!!!!!!!!!!!, Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! AWESOME! My Sister in Law lives in Madison!  An hour away! Free lodging! Whoooo Hoooo!!!!!!!!!!! Majorly freakin' over here... Who am I going to take? ERIN C. maybe? PAT W. maybe?  Dana H. maybe? HMMMM....

Old Catty Panic is starting in...

I put in an order for myself and Pat last night after she called and booked a party. She just HAD to have a certain stamp set and we were like... in a panic ... she was like... Can you still order out of the old catty? Can you order the "Tricky Treats"? and I ordered the Christmas set with the Jesus Mary & Joseph image (there isn't anything comparable to it in the new catty and it is the best "sketched style" image of the nativity I've come across... I know I'll use it for personal use.

Anyways ... I just got ANOTHER order at the last minute! ... so funny!!! LOL... its like the letting go of the old catty is difficult... its been our "stamping bible" all year! Its like putting an old friend to rest... its like looking back at the old and "ringing in the new!" Its like... its like.... (ok, just getting a bit sentimental here... ) Whaughhhhh!

Things have been wild!

Ok guys, I've been seriously wanting to spend some time giving my personal opinions of this years catty... you may have to wait until next week (I just LOVE giving my opinions and critiques!) I have to collect my thoughts and observations and there are so many new stamp sets that I'm still figuring my thoughts out! Good stuff in the catty... just need time to reflect! (I guess I need to grab another cup of tea and sit down with it and look at it again for the 15th or 16th time! LOL)

To those who pre-ordered the catty that I have to mail out:

They are in the mail to you already! You should get them on Saturday! (Cheryl, probably on Monday) Everybody on my customer list gets free shipping from the new catty until July 31 AND from July 19- Aug 31----- hostesses will get an additional $25 in merchandise for $350+ workshops

Pearl-Ex sets make alot of sense to me. I'm so glad we can now order them in sets where you get 6 different "colors" for less $$$ than purchasing 6 colors in last years catty separately.

The Pearlex sets are:

Assortment I

silver, super bronze, duo green/yellow, intereference blue, intereference red, turquouise

Assortment II

aztec gold, micro pearl, spring green, super russet, interference violet, true blue

Assortment III

intereference gold, flamingo pink, duo blue/green, super copper, duo red/blue and misty lavendar

Mistake in Catty!

Last year my husband was the first to notice that one of the animals in the Australian set was a South American animal... (see last years blog comments)... well, he is the type of guy that can notice "bloopers" in movies and TV shows, so I'm not surprised that he found a small mistake... on page 189 there is a "Hand stamped by" stamp with a star image that is in with the Birthday Greetings word set! LOL!

More later!

Happy Birthday to me... Happy Birthday to meeee.... I NEED my new Cattieeeeeeeee... H a p p y B i r t h d a y tooooo mmeeee!

My dear loving husband is letting me order a bunch of stuff from the new catty as a birthday gift! (I'll be online July 19 just after ordering time starts, to place my first 04-05 order!)

My catties arrived in Sturtevant last night!!! They are out for delivery!!!!

I got a birthday e-greeting from Linda Cronkite!

KEWL!

(One of the disadvantages of having a birthday during the SU convention is that my stamp-sisters tend to overlook it because they are all so excited and making swaps that they forget... I guess its kind of like having a Christmas birthday!)

Tuesday, July 13, 2004

It's almost 10 pm and my cattys are in HODGKINS, ILLINOIS!!!! WHOOO HOOOOO!!!! On schedule to be delivered by the dear man in brown tomorrow!!!!!!! Going to bed now. Nite!!!
Feel the Magic!

Stampin' Up! convention 2004

This year I only made one style of card to swap - and only 40 of them (yeah, I know... I must be crazy only making 40). I have quite a few swaps from participating in swaps all year and I don't need any more from the current catty. I'm going to participate in swaps after July 19 to get some cards with some of the NEW stamp sets!

I used Parisian Plaza for the background and Travels Abroad for the main image. Classic Alphabet provided the text.

The new catty cover has a ruby theme with a scrapbook page with butterfly, and a card with a sketches set and other stuff!

WE HAVE BEADS!!!

Thank goodness we finally got black, copper and brass brads! It really makes sense to have these! I had to use non-SU black brads in my contest submission to the WOW Art File Stampin' Up! demo contest in 2003 because they didn't sell them in the catty (I still won the contest anyways, even with a non-SU product on my entry... I was surprised) NOW they are "LEGAL" and not contraband (not that I pay much attention to the whole contraband issue anyways... I create with what I want too)

Guess what the $59 accessory is... drumroll please... A STAMP PAD RACK!!! Whooo Hooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been saving for one of these for a year 'cause they are sooo expensive... now I can purchase one AND get the hostess benefits for my purchase too!!!! AND, its cheaper than the ones I've been looking at!!!!!! I'm so psyched!

NEW CATTY SETS!!!!!!

Somebunny New (kind of a Peter Rabbit type set)

Paris in the Spring (Whooo Hooo!!!)

Summer by the Sea and Seaside Sketches!!! (similar sets)

The mini catty chocolate set Oh so sweet

Words by Wanda, Wanda Wit and Wisdom

Something Marvelous (blah, don't like that set... they should have put Nature's Sketchbook in and left this one out)

There are new really nice sports sets, more like Have a Ball than last years' sports sets

A cool word set with 56 stamps in it!

cute baby set with feet & hands (didn't we have a baby foot set a few years ago?)

There are a few new shape sets...fun with shapes, simply circles, great shapes (I'm glad... I was getting annoyed with the the little "torn edge" look of the shape stamps in the old catty... those have been around way past their time IMHO)

Sassy Sayings I and II...."I Love You More", "You're

My Hero", "You Make Me Happy", "You're My Favorite".... II is "Just

Because I Care", "I want to be you when I grow up", "Just what I wanted"

and "You take the cake".

And... I'm so happy!!! Encore metallic pads are back!!! I was sad when they took out all except silver & gold a few years ago.

We have journaling markers in about 16 of our 48 colors...

Wheel cartridge refills are gone, guess we have to use classic reinkers in them now.

No more glitter stacks... just separate colors of basics (I'm glad, I could never figure out why someone would want to purchase a whole stack if they only wanted one of the colors)

I was going to write more, but I checked my email and somebody posted stuff on a list I'm on...

Results from my after-work quest for Stampin' Up! new set sightings in mags

So... how's that for a title to this diary entry... Like it?! Kind of long,

Anyways... I checked at B&N. They had PaperCrafts mag, but it still was the old issue, not the new one with the new SU set featured. I checked Stamp It! and a bunch of other ones also. The only new SU set I found in there was a photo of the new Breast Cancer Awareness stamp set! It's on page 96 in the "Rubber Stamper" July-August magazine... yes, the magazine that I just let expire! Of course! Actually I purchased this issue because not only for this but because it has a whole section of cat and dog cards! (Look back in my diary... didn't I say about a month or so ago that they would publish an issue with cats in it just AFTER I let my subscription expire?!? Huh, didn't I? DIDN'T I!!! Sneaks...)

The Stampin' Up! stamp set "Hope Is..." has 3 word stamps and a heart. The words are "Believe" "Love" and "Hope is... believing in a brighter tomorrow"

Also, on pages 60-61 of the July-August "Rubber Stamper" mag, there is a London scrapbook page and some of the stamps on the page are Blade Rubber Company stamps!!!! I have a photo of myself that my DH took of me standing in front of Blade Rubber Stamps. I'm going to upload it shortly...

Here it is! Me standing in front of Blade Rubber Stamps! Check it out! This is where I spent some of my money! I'm sure after I left the store they were REALLY happy! (So was I!)

4 MORE DAYS!

I'm getting psyched today! I just read on Splitcoast Stampers that there was a NEW ALPHABET SIGHTING on DIY!!!!!!!!! Oh meeee goooosshhhh! Its "Newsprint Alphabet"!!!!!!!!!! Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh! This set will work FABULOUS with my "newish" technique or style that I've started. I'm going to order this set the VERY FIRST DAY that I can order and I'm going to stamp more cards with my new "technique" and post all my new creations in about a month!!!! I want to upload them for you all to see right now, but I don't have the time... but you can check out the new alpha set here:

Newsprint Alphabet on DIY!

Also, I don't remember where I read about it, but somebody said they saw a new "Words for Wanda" type-ish set in an ad in a Papercrafts magazine. Does anybody have that magazine? Can you email me and confirm this? Call me crazy, but I'm going to stop by the mall, B&N and the Hobby Lobby on my way home and see if I can find a copy to look at!!!!

I LOVE ALPHABETS! Whooo HOoooooo!!!!!!!

(ok... I'm definately a candidate for "curb your enthusiasm...)

6 days to go!

Purple Onion Font Stamps

I ordered some Purple Onion Font stamps at their anniversary sale and I just got them in the mail yesterday!!! Whoo Hoo!!!

I really like the quality of their stamps at Purple Onion. The rubber is nice and thick. In the past I've ordered unmounteds from other companies and the rubber was thin. The thin-ness doesn't affect the quality of the stamped image itself, but I like the thicker rubber stamps because they are easier to handle, cut apart and mount without distortion of image. Once I ordered some unmounted Biblical Impressions Company stamps that had thin rubber. It was difficult to get the rubber straight on the wood because they were too thin and "pliable". Some of the lines of text were kind of crooked because I like to crop them nice and tight and I needed to reposition them on the wood several times until they stamped straight.

Anyways, back to Purple Onion font alphas... I'm mounting the Purple Onion font stamps on wood mounts. Another SU demonstrator prefers to mount her SU stamps on acrylic mounts (which I personally hate using!) and she sells all the wood mounts that come in her SU sets. I bought a whole bunch of wood mounts from her and I'm mounting the Purple Onion Alphas on them. I ordered 3 alpha sets. It would be nice if SU offered the OPTION of ordering acrylic mounts for customers who prefer them... however, I would never purchase acrylic mounts for myself and I will always purchase the traditional wood. If SU ever goes ALL acrylic they will lose me as a customer as I simply hate acrylic. There are so many techniques that you can't do with acrylic mounts that you CAN with wood.

You can't use Staz-On ink with acrylic... the chemicals in Staz-On ruin the acrylic.

The acrylic mounts don't hold up well when doing the ironing technique, they also potentially become damaged when doing embossed impression stamping. They don't stand up to the heat in those techniques. They are more expensive. One single block can cost up to $17.95 not including the stamp image itself and everytime you want to use a stamp you have to mount it, use it, unmount it, clean acrylic block, mount the next one, use, unmount, clean acrylic block... I don't want to spend all my time mounting and unmounted stamps all day every time I want to use them. What a pain. Anyways, to each his/her own. If it works for the other demo, that's fine with me! I just get to buy all her wood blocks cheap! LOL!

More chat later...

7 days until convention!

I was stamping this weekend and I think I developed a new "technique" or style of stamping. I'm going to continue making cards and within the next few weeks I'll know if this is a "new" idea in stamping. I'm going to poke around on the Internet to see if anyone has ever popularized this "technique" in the stamping world before this. I'm sure I'm not the first to try this, I just don't see much of this technique done on any current websites. In a month or so, I should be able to post a bunch of my "new technique" cards for my diary readers to see. Then, if there is any interest, I'll host a swap with this technique for all who would like to try it. So stay tuned...
