6 days to go!

Purple Onion Font Stamps

I ordered some Purple Onion Font stamps at their anniversary sale and I just got them in the mail yesterday!!! Whoo Hoo!!!

I really like the quality of their stamps at Purple Onion. The rubber is nice and thick. In the past I've ordered unmounteds from other companies and the rubber was thin. The thin-ness doesn't affect the quality of the stamped image itself, but I like the thicker rubber stamps because they are easier to handle, cut apart and mount without distortion of image. Once I ordered some unmounted Biblical Impressions Company stamps that had thin rubber. It was difficult to get the rubber straight on the wood because they were too thin and "pliable". Some of the lines of text were kind of crooked because I like to crop them nice and tight and I needed to reposition them on the wood several times until they stamped straight.

Anyways, back to Purple Onion font alphas... I'm mounting the Purple Onion font stamps on wood mounts. Another SU demonstrator prefers to mount her SU stamps on acrylic mounts (which I personally hate using!) and she sells all the wood mounts that come in her SU sets. I bought a whole bunch of wood mounts from her and I'm mounting the Purple Onion Alphas on them. I ordered 3 alpha sets. It would be nice if SU offered the OPTION of ordering acrylic mounts for customers who prefer them... however, I would never purchase acrylic mounts for myself and I will always purchase the traditional wood. If SU ever goes ALL acrylic they will lose me as a customer as I simply hate acrylic. There are so many techniques that you can't do with acrylic mounts that you CAN with wood.

You can't use Staz-On ink with acrylic... the chemicals in Staz-On ruin the acrylic.

The acrylic mounts don't hold up well when doing the ironing technique, they also potentially become damaged when doing embossed impression stamping. They don't stand up to the heat in those techniques. They are more expensive. One single block can cost up to $17.95 not including the stamp image itself and everytime you want to use a stamp you have to mount it, use it, unmount it, clean acrylic block, mount the next one, use, unmount, clean acrylic block... I don't want to spend all my time mounting and unmounted stamps all day every time I want to use them. What a pain. Anyways, to each his/her own. If it works for the other demo, that's fine with me! I just get to buy all her wood blocks cheap! LOL!

More chat later...
